PYROMETERS with a rear stem, we mean devices used to
monitor the
temperature in a specific element, without
sending any contact or control signal.160;The
substantial difference between the two types mentioned lies in their operating principle
; the thermometer is
designed for measurement carried out at
‘contact’ with the material to be
monitored (liquid or solid), while the
pyrometer takes the measurement
by capturing the data through
radiation from the source to be
monitored (usually gaseous/aeriform elements),
therefore without physical contact. Another substantial difference is the
measurement range; while a bimetallic thermometer tends to
reach values at the bottom of the scale of 120°C, a pyrometer
can easily reach values of 500/600°C at the bottom of the scale.
