THERMOREGULATION: the importance in a machining process of temperature control
Published the 17.07.2025With the term thermoregulation, we describe the temperature control process inherent to a certain product processing, for which requires monitoring of the relevant temperature. A thermoregulation process is usually carried out by means of signal transducer instruments, called TERMOREGULATORS, capable of converting an electrical signal supplied with the aid of a temperature probe, into an actual datum to be analysed and managed, such as the temperature. There are many different types of temperature controllers, each one suitable for certain situations and applications. But what are the advantages of good temperature control?
Implementing high-performance thermoregulation helps achieve far superior results compared to not having it;
-
but why?
Until a few decades ago, in industrial moulding or heat-related processes in general, temperature control was entrusted to basic instruments with little precision or sometimes even totally absent; investing in ‘temperature control’ was considered a waste of money. Over the years, with the need to achieve increasingly high-quality work and with an ever-increasing focus on energy efficiency , thermoregulation has become an increasingly fundamental and primary aspect of industrial manufacturing processes .
Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of implementing or not implementing high-performance thermoregulation:
- Not implementing temperature control (thermoregulation) has the following DISADVANTAGES:
-
Energy waste
-
Poor performance results
-
Chemical risks due to chemical reactions of products resulting from abnormal temperature conditions
-
Uncontrolled physical alteration of the state of the product being processed
- Implementing temperature control (thermoregulation) using high-quality instruments involves the following ADVANTAGES:
-
Reduction of energy waste
-
Exploitation of thermal inertia triggered by the physical molecular structure of the product being processed
-
Optimisation of processing times
-
Increase in working hours of controlled heating elements
-
Reduction in overheating, a cause of fires
CONCLUSIONS:
THERMAL REGULATION is an indispensable component in a work process where there are elements such as HEAT (heating) or COLD (cooling), and the resources invested in this aspect bring only and exclusively advantages.
